I am obsessed with shiplap! I knew that when designing our farmhouse, I was going to implement these dreamy wood boards in certain focal areas in our home. It is a great way to add character, texture and dimension.
Shiplap, in my opinion, is “timeless”. Back in the day their nickel joints overlapping each other provided a tight seal giving protection to a structure. The gap between the boards are a unique feature to shiplap and offer a look like no other.
UFP-Edge offers a wide variety of finishes to choose from. They have rustic, charred and timeless nickel gap. We chose the charred 1×6 Ash Gray for all our ceiling details, primed 1×8 nickel gap for the focal walls and 1×8 Farmhouse White for the pool and powder bath walls.
I instantly fell in love with the charred Ash Gray shiplap! The unique technique of charring wood allows the natural wood grain to shine. Yes! that means they actually burn the boards. The organic feel is something I admire about this beautiful shiplap. With such a gorgeous finish, you save on the expense and mess of staining. All you have to do is apply it to any surface and you’re done.
UFP-Edge Ash Gray

We have 7 ceiling details in our home. So let’s start with the entrance! Creating a welcoming first impression was a goal. To achieve this, I added a foyer ceiling design of drywall beams. Each section will have the Ash Gray shiplap. Everything will also be enhanced with crown. The foyer walls are ready for the 1×8 primed shiplap. I chose the 1×8 size due to the height of our ceilings. The entire first floor is 12ft. The wider planks will compliment the tall walls.
FOYER

STAIRCASE

The entire staircase will have 1×8 primed shiplap.
GREAT ROOM

The great room’s ceiling design is truly grand. It has a series of 15 sectioned grids that will each have Ash Gray shiplap. The sections will also be dressed in crown to make it all pop. As you step into the great room, the focal wall using primed 1×8 shiplap will surround the 3 gray back doors.
MORNING ROOM

The morning room is one of my favorite spaces. With 10ft windows that overlook the cow pasture, you have a very peaceful view. The ceiling design is an X. Each triangle will have the Ash Gray shiplap. The walls will be the 1×8 primed. I can’t wait to see this space transformed with the warmth and texture of the shiplap.
MASTER BEDROOM

The master bedroom’s 14ft vaulted ceiling is dramatic. The Ash Gray shiplap will add to the drama, creating a soothing space to unwind. The walls will be smooth and white allowing the grains and color of the wood to be the focus.
KITCHEN

The kitchen is the heart of the home. I wanted to add warmth to the white cabinetry. The Ash Gray shiplap will be in the ceiling’s inset. The combination of the wood, modern brass pendants and high gloss subway tile, will create a sleek but industrial look.
POOL & POWDER BATHS
The pool and powder bath walls will be Timeless Nickel Gap 1×8 boards in Farmhouse White. UFP-Edge pre paints their boards in PPG brand paints. What a budget saver not to paint these boards. So easy to install and enjoy! Both rooms will also have Ash Gray ceilings to add more texture and interest.
